The Person Centred Approach - Helping You Out of The Maze and Onto A Path of Your Own…
I am a passionate advocate of the Person-Centred Approach (PCA).
As a person-centred counsellor I believe you have a unique tendency to strive in the way that’s best for you. As such, I believe most answers to your problems lie within yourself… but it is my job to help you find them by supporting you with empathy and without judgement.
Life can feel like a complicated maze at times. Sometimes life events can stop you from thriving in the way that’s best for you. Sometimes other people - even if they are ‘well meaning’ - can also be a barrier to your wellbeing.
I believe the therapeutic relationship we build together is key to you building trust in me. From this place of trust, you can explore your thoughts and feelings more deeply. By carefully listening and supporting you, I can help you consider your experiences and ideas. In this way, I believe you can find your own path - and your own voice - so that you can go on to make better choices for yourself and live a happier, more fulfilled life.
It is important for you to know that Person-Centred therapy can take longer than CBT and other forms of counselling because we grapple with root causes. It may therefore take time for us to unpack your difficulties and work out what’s going on for you. However, research suggests that the outcomes for person-centred counselling are greater and longer lasting than other approaches. By choosing person-centred counselling you are therefore making an investment in yourself and your future.
Ethical Practice
I’m an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and my registration number is 381145. As a registered member of the BACP, I work within their ethical framework to deliver counselling that is safe, professional and accountable. Further information on the BACP can be found here.
As a counsellor I also engage in regular supervision, peer support and personal development. I have full public liability insurance and a clear DBS certificate. To ensure compliance with the GDPR, I am also registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
Before working together I will send you copies of my working agreement and privacy policy. This ensures you are aware of what you can expect while you are working with me.
Sustainability
I strive to ensure my practice is as sustainable as possible. I run a ‘paper-free’ practice, with electronic record system and am mindful of recycling. My city centre practice enables you to travel by public transport or bike if you wish.
